Do you know all the travel options you actually have?

Hey you,

I gotta tell you a story that blew my mind. A few years back, I was chatting with a friend—who happened to be a multi-millionaire. During our conversation, I mentioned that I’d been to over 30 countries and started traveling solo at 17 (I was now in my 30’s). Then something unexpected happened… his tone shifted. He sounded annoyed, almost irritated. “You’ve been to more places than I have in my entire life,” he said.

I paused. Was that… jealousy? I was not expecting that reaction from someone who seemingly had it all. A $500k car, penthouse apartment costing him $10K a month, a lifestyle of dropping hundreds of dollars every time he went out to eat. And yet—he was envious of me because I had seen more of the world than he had.

I learned an important lesson that day about values.

We choose what we value in life. While some may prioritize consumerist items and flashy symbols of social status, others center experiences and memory-making as their form of wealth.

The value of your budget trip—stretching $2K for a multi-month experience in Southeast Asia—might be just as, or even more, valuable than someone else’s $2K spent on a month of rent in their luxury apartment Stateside with skyscraper views. It all depends on your state of mind.

That day got me thinking about travel, and how each person has a different relationship with it.

When you hear the word travel, what comes to mind:
A solo trip with a backpack and a water bottle, hopping hostels meeting other vagabonds?
A family vacation with the kids at an all-inclusive resort sipping bottomless poolside juice?
A slomad life—slow-moving, long-staying, taking language classes in town across from your month to month Airbnb?

When you see people post their travel photos, do you think:
“Must be nice…” as if it’s a flex?
Or
“Maybe I need that too…” as if it’s an invitation?

The way people interpret travel often reflects the relationship they had with it growing up—and the relationship they have with their current state of mind. For some, travel is to escape. For others, it’s to arrive. For some, it’s a reward. For others, it’s survival.

For many, travel has to be considered in the context of managing work PTO, waiting until retirement, managing kids, a mortgage, and other priorities. For others, life is a bit more flexible, less tethered, and travel is a bit more urgent. There are so many reasons why we choose—or choose not—to travel with the time and resources we have.

So today, I want to offer you a travel menu—not of destinations, but of intentions—to help you rethink how travel can meet you exactly where you are and take you where you need to go.
